Highly Coarse Hair: How Should I Care for It?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Highly porous hair is the result of frequent hair treatments. The hair is dryer and more brittle than usual. They make the hair drier and more brittle. If you have very reactive hair, you need to know how to care for it properly so that it stays strong and shiny

How to Identify Very-Rough Hair

Hair of this type has split scales and is more susceptible to damage. When caring for your hair, you will notice that:

  • the hair evaporates more quickly,
  • highly porous hair absorbs water so that it becomes frizzy after shampooing and drying,
  • they do not hold color and need to be colored more often.

Women who use a flat iron to style their hair also cause the cuticles to open up and the hair becomes less shiny. Curling irons and blow dryers also affect the hair’s condition – they damage the hair’s outer cuticle and then its core, the cortex.

Highly porous hair is more likely to be found near the ends and on certain strands like the face.

Highly porous hair will therefore be much more brittle, fragile and rough. It lacks healthy shine and the hair color may become more dull. The hairstyle is more difficult to manage because the strands are not flexible but stiff and frizzy.

When caring for your hair it is noticeable that your hair almost “drinks” water, conditioner or oil that is applied to it. They are also much more sensitive to heat, so after using a flat or curling iron they become even drier and more brittle. In addition, it is quite difficult to comb the hair, because the protruding scales catch on each other, creating small tangles.

How Do I Care for My High-Road Hair?

First of all, it is important to avoid all treatments, which are based on strong bleaching of the hair or are aimed at styling the hair with hot air. Straightening or prolonged blow-drying is therefore not recommended. Experienced hairdressers also know that this hair type should not be layered or styled with hot air.

Women with bleached hair must avoid bleaching, which dries out the hair strands even more. Excessive sun, wind and rinses with an acidic pH should also be avoided as much as possible. Brush your hair with a soft natural brush or a wide-toothed comb. You should also not use cosmetics with paraffins, proteins, alcohol or humectants.

So, how do you take care of high porous hair? The best way to take care is:

  • balanced care, based on natural oils recommended for porous hair (these are: olive oil, avocado oil or sesame oil);
  • regular trimming of split and dry ends;
  • moisturising and greasing the hair as well as wet oiling
  • using masks with silicones and silicone oils;
  • putting hair up in a ponytail or using special pins to protect it from damage;
  • protecting hair from the sun with cosmetics (it is important to use a UV filter to shield hair from the sun’s rays).

Because highly porous hair is more prone to damage, you should say goodbye forever to curling irons and blow dryers that dry only with hot air. Find time for at-home conditioning, including wet oiling, and be sure to apply a conditioner with plenty of nutrients. This will certainly make your hair less unruly and also noticeably thicker. Choose masks, which are suitable for highly porous hair and which contain oils and vitamins including A and B

Good quality cosmetics and conditioning by oiling will certainly make your hair stronger and less vulnerable to damage.
