It’s a well-known fact that going anywhere with a dog you should take a leash and a harness or a collar. However, what else should you take for a longer trip?
First and foremost, take your dog’s health book with you. We hope that you will not need it, but you never know what will happen during the trip. You may need an unexpected visit to the vet. Also, make sure your pet has all their vaccinations.
Take along food and water bowls as well. These will come in handy not only when you are there, but also when you are traveling. Also have some dog food with you, preferably the kind that your friend eats at home. Trying new foods while traveling may not be a good idea. Take mineral water for the road as well, so that your dog has constant access to drink during the trip, especially on hot days.
It’s also important to bring along a blanket and your dog’s favorite toy. For many four-legged friends, travel and a change of environment can be extremely stressful, which is why it’s important to bring something that smells like home and makes them feel comfortable. A blanket will also come in handy while on the road so that your dog has a comfortable place to sit or sleep.
If you own a small breed, then bring along a doggie outfit as well. It is also a good idea to bring an address tag with your details, the dog’s name and telephone number. It is indispensable if your dog gets lost in the crowd or goes for a walk without you. Thanks to such an address book, the person who finds the dog will be able to contact you easily.
When traveling abroad with your dog, in addition to the things mentioned above, you should remember about other aspects. If you plan to go on vacation outside of our country, you may need to get a passport for your dog. It is also worth remembering about the regulations in the European Union. They allow the movement of animals quite freely, but the dog must meet certain conditions if you want to travel with him in the EU. First of all, it must have a valid certificate of vaccination against rabies, an identification chip or tattoo and the previously mentioned passport. Additionally, in the case of a dog under three months of age, a special permit from the Agricultural Office is required.
